SUN 11:15 to 12:00 – Abbie Trayler-Smith

Abbie Trayler-Smith will give an artist talk on Kiss it!, her new photobook, which results from a long-term collaboration between herself and Shannon, a young woman living with obesity. Created over the course of 12 years, Abbie has documented Shannon’s journey from teenager to adult, as she would navigate friendships, family, first-boyfriends, prom nights, holidays and jobs.

‘Walking alongside Shannon, I could offer her a visual reflection as well as validation and approval. She could offer me insight. It felt like a perfect collaboration. The chemistry we shared was eventually able to flow and enlighten us both. We shared so much over the years. Talking and listening to her revealed my own history.
